CRL is the creator of ‘eka’ , the largest and fastest supercomputer available for commercial use in the world. ‘eka’ was unveiled at the Supercomputing conference in November 2007, and it was ranked the fourth fastest in the world.CRL has used its innovative ideas and disruptive breakthroughs to create new benchmarks in High Performance Computing which will enable simulations and computations hitherto not possible.
‘eka’ is a densely packed cluster of 1800 nodes, each of which has two quad-core Clovertown Intel processors, 16 GB RAM and 72 GB local hard disk. It has a custom implementation of the CLOS network topology. The supercomputer has network-attached storage of 72 TB with RAID6 level of fault tolerance. The total available external storage capacity is 80 Terabytes with 5.2 GBps throughput. The nodes are interconnected using Connect-x Dual Data Rate (DDR) Infiniband network operating at 20 Gbps.
